FAQ

Popsmith is the secret to making perfect movie theater popcorn and homemade kettle corn at home. Making stovetop popcorn has never been this fun and tasty. Here are some of our most-asked questions about our stovetop popcorn popper and popcorn kits.

Popper FAQs

  • The Popsmith is extremely easy to use! Follow our step-by-step instructions here.

  • Yep! You can use your own kernels, oils, salts and other ingredients to make popcorn with the Popsmith.

  • The Popsmith popper offers a 6-quart capacity and we suggest using half a cup of kernels plus approx 4 tablespoons of oil per batch.

  • It is! You can put all of its parts inside the dishwasher, including the spinner.

  • The crank on top also serves as a handle to remove the lid and it stays comfortable to the touch throughout the cook process.

The main elongated handle stays cool to the touch, but you may want to wear a mitt while holding the shorter handle. Also be mindful of the Popper's cover slit where steam is released!

  • Yes, the Popsmith is compatible with all stovetops and cooktops, including Induction stoves.

  • We offer a one-year warranty on the Popsmith Popper.

  • The Popsmith is made of all stainless steel with multiple layers of heat resistant paint adhered to its body. However, like any stovetop cookware, treat it with care. Aggressive use may cause the Popper to scuff.

If you're using a gas stove, we recommend keeping the flame at medium in order to minimize flare marks.

Popcorn FAQs

  • It’s normal for coconut oil to remain solid at room or colder temperatures. The oil will melt when heated, just like butter.

  • Each box of Popcorn contains five pre-measured popcorn making kits, and each kit makes four servings of popcorn — approx 2.5x more than a bag of microwave popcorn!

  • Each box of Popcorn comes with five packs of pre-measured popping corn kernels, coconut oil and seasoning.

  • Start by adding the coconut oil and popping corn from your pre-measured popcorn kit. When the oil has fully melted and you start to hear (and smell) that sizzle, add Sugar’n Salt mix.

Close the lid and give your Popsmith a few more turns to mix the ingredients together. (Or give your Popper a little shake to ensure the bottom kernels don't over-caramelize or burn!) Follow our step-by-step instructions here.

  • We source our kernels from family-owned farms in Iowa and Missouri. They’re farm-fresh, small batch, and non-GMO.

  • For stovetop popping, you want to use an oil with a high smoking point such as vegetable, canola, avocado or coconut oil. At Popsmith, we use 100% Coconut Oil since it has a high smoking point and delivers that authentic movie theater flavor you crave.

  • Coconut oil is the lowest calorie oil to cook with, providing a little less than 117 calories per tablespoon.

Here's what we'd recommend: Open the Popsmith coconut oil first, measure out the desired number of tablespoons (1 tablespoon = approximately 117 calories) add to the Popper, and discard the rest. Continue popping as directed. The Popper makes about 24 cups of popcorn, put half (12 cups) in a freezer-sized ziplock bag to enjoy later. Your popcorn will stay crisp, flavorful, and crunchy for 3-5+ days.

  • Place in an air-tight container or ziplock bag. Your popcorn will stay crisp, flavorful, and crunchy for 3-5 days.
